Hello class, while studying the Johnstown flood we are going focus on some other man-made and natural disasters that have occurred. Follow the steps below to receive credit for today.

1. Work in groups of 2-4
2. Choose a topic to research out of a hat.
3. Go to www.newseum.org
4. Click on "Today's Front Pages"
5. Click on "View Archived Pages"
6. Find your topic and select one of the linked dates below
7. Choose a Newspaper
8. Read the front page story
9. Complete the graphic organizer, if there isn't enough info on the front page choose another article
10. Add the jpeg of the front page to your blog
11. Report back your findings to the class
Extra Credit: Link the picture of the newspaper to www.newseum.org

Hello class this week we will be reading the about the Johnstown Flood for the one year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy. Here are some of the important literary terms and ideas that we will be working with.

Themes: Survival, destruction/ chaos,

Historical Narrative: a story about real events that happened in the past.

Chronological Order: Telling the events of a story in the order they occurred from first to last.

Mood: the emotion of a piece of text(not to be confused with tone)

Syntax: the order of words or phrases

Diction: the choice of words (diction create mood)

Important Reminder: "Prezintations" are due Friday after the the test!
