1) Drawing Conclusions: We draw conclusions from the text by referring back to the author's words, the world around us, and from comparing it to our own personal experiences. The three aforementioned strategies allow us to not only judge what we read, but to also fill in the gaps where things are left unsaid by the author.

Suggested Questions To Draw Conclusions Through Comparing and
Contrasting Two Texts:
1)
What are some of the challenges that the man in
the first photo is facing? What are some of the challenges that the woman in
the second photo is facing?
2)
In what ways are their challenges similar? In
other words, can these two individuals relate to one another's experiences?
3)
Based on your answer to 1 and 2, do you think that
one individual has it harder than the other to adjust to what’s expected of
them?
4)
Based on what you read, how do the attitudes of
both individuals differ when it comes to improving themselves?
5) Challenge Question (optional): If you
had to give your opinion on who you would consider to be more of an outsider
based on the situation he or she highlighted, would it be the man in the first
photo, or the woman in the second?
1.Some of the challenges the man face in the first photo is that it was hard for him in law school, he still has a little bit of ghetto in him. Now the second photo she looks happy , she had a decent life.
ReplyDelete2.Too me I dont think they have anything that is similar.
3 I think that the first person has it harder.
4. They are pushing themselves to do better.
Atianna, you might want to revisit these questions. Some of them are a bit too general, so I can't get a good sense of what you're talking about or what your thinking was while answering them. ALWAYS make sure to include "The Why." It's not enough to say the woman looks happy, or has a decent life, you have to tell me why you feel that way by including something substantial from the passage and something you know personally so that you can arrive at a more thorough conclusion. I want you to try this again! Also make sure that each answer is AT LEAST two to three sentences.

ReplyDelete1. What are some of the challenges that the man in the first photo is facing? What are some of the challenges that the woman in the second photo is facing?
ReplyDeleteAnswer: Both individuals are experiencing problems with adjustment and both individuals are exposed to disillusionment and alienation. Though, they are both experiencing the same problems generally, their cases differ. The man in image one has started competing with private school students and because he was raised in the ghetto he seemingly is seen as a social outcast. He thought he was ready for college, but his actions gave proof that he isn’t. The lady in image two was persuaded by her family to migrate to the US from Dominican Republic and now that she is here no one wants to hire her, she now has smaller living space and her leisure is now taken away.
2. In what ways are their challenges similar? In other words, can these two individuals relate to one another experiences?
Answer: There challenges are similar in a sense that they both feel socially immobile and there both being struck with reality in a way they have never seen before. In conclusion, I think both individuals will be able relate to each other’s story.
3. Based on your answer to 1 and 2, do you think that one individual has it harder than the other to adjust to what’s expected of them?
Answer: I think the lady in image two has it harder. She has to adjust to her new life setting, she has to go through the process if underemployment, she has to develop new social circles while all the boy has to do is study harder and do what he has to do to pass through college which many other people are doing.
4. Based on what you read, how do the attitudes of both individuals differ when it comes to improving themselves?
Answer: The male in figure one is very determined and quite optimistic. Though he was going through a rough time in his life, he found some way to make it through. On the other hand, I notice while I am reading the caption for image two that the girl is complaining and this will get her no where.
5. If you had to give your opinion on who you would consider to be more of an outsider based on the situation he or she highlighted, would it be the man in the first photo, or the woman in the second?
Answer: I would most definitely say the woman. Why? This is because she in the process of adopting to a new culture in a different country. No friends, and she gets looked down on because of her accent and because she is am immigrant. On the other hand, all the boy in the first image needs to do is try to familiarize himself with the people in his environs and excel because he seemingly has good work ethics.
The two individuals are somewhat related to each other because they don't live in the area. The schools they go to is too much for them. They rather go home.
